Martha’s Vineyard Boys & Girls Club | Video Production

Challenge:
The Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club (MVBGC) approached Bunker Hill Media to produce a video piece for their ambitious Build. Belong. Become. fundraising campaign, aimed at constructing a new state-of-the-art facility in Edgartown. This new building is set to replace the outdated and insufficient current facilities, providing a much-needed upgrade to ensure a safe, clean, and engaging environment for the island’s youth. The campaign video was a critical component of their strategy, intended to be showcased at MVBGC’s annual gala to inspire donations and support from the community.
The challenge was to create a video that not only highlighted the urgent need for new facilities but also conveyed the profound impact that the MVBGC has had on the Martha’s Vineyard community over the years. We needed to evoke emotional resonance while providing a clear and compelling call to action. This involved illustrating the everyday struggles faced by the club due to inadequate facilities, juxtaposed with the transformative potential of the new building.
Moreover, the video had to appeal to a diverse audience, including long-time supporters, potential new donors, and community stakeholders. It was crucial to strike a balance between showcasing the practical benefits of the new facility and capturing the heartfelt stories of the children and families who rely on the club. We had to ensure that the narrative was both informative and inspiring, motivating viewers to contribute to the campaign and help realize the vision of a new, modern clubhouse.
Production:
To create the most effective story-driven content, we highlighted the pressing needs of MVBGC as well as acknowledged the incredible impact that the club has on the Martha’s Vineyard community, and why it’s so important to have such a place available to the island’s youth. We collaborated closely with the client to build the story concept, ensuring that it aligned perfectly with the campaign’s goals.
We spent a day on-site, conducting interviews with a few individuals involved MVBGC, people who really knew the story behind the cause. Capturing dynamic b-roll footage of daily activities, we showcased the current facilities and the vibrant community atmosphere that MVBGC fosters. The shoot involved navigating several logistical challenges, such as coordinating with multiple interview subjects and ensuring we captured the essence of the club's environment within the constraints of a single day.
Post-production focused on weaving together the interviews and b-roll footage into a compelling narrative. We paid special attention to the emotional tone, aiming to evoke empathy and inspire action among viewers. The final edit balanced the urgency of the club's needs with the hopeful vision for the future, creating a polished, impactful video that resonated with the audience.
