CHALLENGE:
This... this was a really special project. At Bunker Hill Media, we absolutely adore when we get to tell the story of organizations that truly care about their mission, and Somerville Youth Soccer was no exception. The incredible team behind this organization approached us to create two video assets, and from the moment we met with them, it was clear how passionate they are about what they do.
The first video was designed to introduce the broader audience to the heart and soul of Somerville Youth Soccer—who they are and the impact they’ve made. The second video was crafted to highlight their youth camps, clinics, and their ongoing efforts around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Both videos needed to be engaging, authentic, and capture not only the action on the soccer field but also the sense of community and inclusiveness that Somerville Youth Soccer stands for.
We knew we had to create something that would resonate with families, players, and community partners alike, conveying both the excitement of youth soccer and the organization’s commitment to diversity. It was a challenge we were thrilled to take on, knowing that we had the opportunity to tell a story that was bigger than just the game.
PRODUCTION:
To bring the vision of Somerville Youth Soccer to life, we executed a two-day shoot using a combination of equipment and filming techniques to capture both action-packed and intimate moments. Utilizing our Sony FX3 camera for crisp and professional video quality, and RODE Go mics for clear, natural audio during the interviews, we ensured that both the interview segments and voiceovers were smooth and polished. A variety of lenses were used ranging from 16mm-200mm. This way we could capture sweeping shots of the fields as well as super close up action shots of the kids games! The DJI mini 3 drone shots were particularly important for wide shots of the field and also Boston in the background. We really used it to capture the energy of the soccer fields and camps from above, adding an engaging and unique perspective that you don’t get to see every day!
Day 1 focused on shorter sessions at a soccer clinic, with soccer start Kristine Lilly. On this beautiful sunny day, we captured b-roll of players practicing, runnign drills and learning from Lilly on the field! Day 2 involved a bit of a longer shoot covering in-game highlights along with our main interview with SYS’s president. In post-production, we blended these elements with music and graphics, including motion graphics for logos, to create a cohesive and inspiring narrative.
