One Shoot, Five Videos: How to Maximize Your Investment in Video Production

If you’re a business owner or marketing director trying to make smart, strategic content decisions this year, you’re probably already considering video. And you should be - video remains one of the highest-performing forms of content in every industry. But what most people don’t realize is just how much you can accomplish with a single shoot, if you go in with the right strategy.

At Bunker Hill Media, we’ve worked with dozens of businesses across the country - many of them ambitious, fast-growing, and wearing quite a few many hats. One of the most common challenges they face is figuring out how to get the most out of a limited video production budget.

That’s where smart planning comes in. With the right prep, one shoot day can produce a lot of high-quality video assets that support multiple goals across marketing, recruiting, internal communications, and brand building.

Here’s how we approach it—and how you can, too.

Video Production Shoot Day Case Study: SauveBio

One of our recent projects was with SauveBio, start up that was looking to create video content to accompany the launch of their brand. When they first reached out, they wanted to create an “About Us” video—something cinematic, authentic, and mission-driven. Their goal was to use this piece on their website, in email outreach, and on social media to better connect with potential partners and customers.

Simple enough, right?

But during the planning process, we started asking some bigger-picture questions:

  • Were there other pieces of content they’d need in the next few months?

  • Did they want to boost their presence on LinkedIn?

  • Would a founder video or a behind-the-scenes clip be helpful later on?

The answer to all of those was “yes.” But the time wasn’t quite right to invest in more than that “About Us” video quite yet. We’d stick with that original content plan, but we were aware that there was so much more that we could capture while we were on location with them. So we made a smart call: we’d still shoot it al.

On the day of the shoot, we set aside time to record some extra clips specifically for LinkedIn. Short, direct-to-camera talking heads. Personal thoughts from the founder. Some b-roll of the team working. We also made sure to capture footage that could be reused in a variety of ways—cut into social reels, looped silently on a homepage, or added to a future campaign.

While we’ve only edited and delivered the primary “About Us” video so far, the additional footage is organized and ready to go. SauveBio doesn’t need to call us back for another shoot—they just need to say the word when they’re ready to publish more content.

Why This Approach Works So Well

Whether you’re a startup founder or the marketing lead for a growing company, you already know how hard it can be to get everyone in the same place at the same time. Your team’s busy. Your product evolves. You’re juggling 20 things.

So when you have a video shoot scheduled, the last thing you want is to only capture one asset and then find yourself back at square one a few weeks later. Instead, we always recommend a “shoot once, edit many” mindset.

Here’s why it works:

1. You Save Time and Money

Booking crew, securing locations, prepping talent, setting up lighting—it’s all time-consuming and costly. If you’re going through that effort, it’s smart to capture as much usable footage as possible while you’re at it. To be honest, if we’re coming to location changes are this is going to be a full day shoot. Sometimes people think - oh this will only take a few hours to shoot but really when you take travel and set up into consideration you’re looking at a full day. Fun reminder - set up for your video team should take at least (AT LEAST!!!!!) two hours after they arrive. Loading in gear, finding the set up, locking in lighting - it all takes time to make it look amazing.

2. You Create a Video Asset Library

Think of it like stocking your pantry: the more ingredients you have on hand, the more meals you can make. Similarly, the more diverse and flexible footage you have from one shoot, the more types of content you can produce later without reshooting.

We often encourage clients to think beyond the immediate project. Want to create a social campaign later this year? Planning a rebrand down the road? Need to pitch investors or onboard new hires? You might not be ready to edit those videos yet—but you’ll be grateful to have the footage.

3. You Can Repurpose Footage for Different Platforms

Each platform has its own best practices. A brand video on your website might be 90 seconds long and include interviews. But that same footage can be re-edited into:

  • A 30-second Instagram Reel

  • A 15-second YouTube pre-roll ad

  • A vertical clip for TikTok

  • A square video for LinkedIn

  • A banner loop for your homepage

  • A silent teaser for email marketing

Same footage. Totally different uses.

4. You Future-Proof Your Content Calendar

We’ve seen it too many times: a client finishes their dream video, posts it everywhere—and then hits a dry spell. No more content to post. No time to shoot. Nothing new to promote.

But clients who plan ahead and bank content always win. Having a stockpile of ready-to-edit footage gives you flexibility. Maybe you're launching something new. Maybe something newsworthy happens in your space and you want to react quickly. Having pre-recorded assets makes it easier to stay active, agile, and relevant.

What to Ask Your Video Team

If you're working with a video production company, talk to them about how you can get more out of your shoot day. Ask:

  • “Can we film some additional pieces even if we’re not editing them yet?”

  • “What types of content could we repurpose from this shoot?”

  • “How can we plan the day to capture more than one style of video?”

  • “Can you deliver organized folders or labeled clips for future use?”

At Bunker Hill Media, this kind of forward-thinking is baked into every shoot. We don’t just show up with a camera and wing it. We create a plan based on your goals today and what you might need 6 months from now.

Let’s Recap: Here’s What You Can Film in One Day

With good planning and the right production team, here’s just an example of what you can walk away with from a single shoot:

  • A full-length About Us or Brand Video

  • Short talking-head videos for LinkedIn or YouTube

  • Social media cutdowns (Reels, TikToks, Stories)

  • B-roll for future website updates or ads

  • Behind-the-scenes content

  • Culture or team-building footage

  • Clips for recruiting and onboarding

You don’t need to edit and use it all right away—but you do need to capture it while you have the chance.

The Bottom Line: Shoot Smarter

Video production doesn’t have to be a one-and-done deal. With the right approach, one shoot can support your business goals for months—even years. You just need a team that knows how to think like that from the start.

Whether you're looking to build your brand, connect with customers, or simply post more consistently without scrambling for new content every week, we’re here to help.
