Bringing the Rice Krispies Treats Re-Treat Suite to Life Through Video and Photos with Bunker Hill Media

I’ve got to be honest, we were (and still are) so stoked to have been a part of this project. When Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats decided to create a one-of-a-kind experience with their Rice Krispies Treats Retreat Suite, they aimed to evoke the playful and nostalgic essence of their brand while creating a memorable space that would delight both children and adults alike. This suite, designed to be an ooey-gooey wonderland, was more than just a place to sleep—it was a destination meant to capture the imagination and joy of anyone who entered. Bunker Hill Media was tasked with the exciting challenge of bringing this vibrant, interactive space to life through high-quality photos and video content, ensuring that the essence of the experience could be shared far beyond the suite’s physical location.

Video and Photo Project Overview

The suite was designed to reflect the fun and joy associated with Rice Krispies Treats, filled with hidden treats and sleepover-style games, creating moments of unexpected joy for families as they explore. The objective of this project was to produce visual content that would capture the whimsical nature of the suite, conveying its magic to audiences across multiple platforms.

Bunker Hill Media was hired by the team who deigned the space, All Terrain, to deliver a comprehensive visual package, including 44 high-quality photos and a 30-second video shot with our Sony FX3, along with 5 photos and a 30-second video shot on an iPhone. The FX3 content was intended for PR and marketing purposes, while the iPhone content was specifically created for Rice Krispies Treats' and All Terrain’s social media channels, which boast over 32,000 followers. Our goal was to provide media, fans, and families with a vivid taste of the Retreat Suite experience, even if they couldn’t visit in person.

The Experience

The Re-Treat Suite was designed as an immersive experience where every corner of the suite invited guests to play and explore. From the whimsical bunk bed slide to the creative fort, every detail was meticulously crafted to bring out the inner child in every guest. The challenge for Bunker Hill Media was to translate this playful and cozy atmosphere into visual content that could be used across different platforms, ensuring that the suite's magic could be shared with a wide audience.

The Ask

Rice Krispies Treats needed a versatile set of visual assets that could be used for various marketing and PR purposes. Specifically, they required:

  1. High-Quality Content for PR and Marketing:

    • 44 photos and a 30-second video captured with both the FujiFilm XT5 the Sony FX3. These assets were to be used in press releases, distributed to news outlets, blogs, and other media channels to generate buzz and highlight the unique features of the suite.

  2. Social Media-Ready Content:

    • 5 photos and a 30-second video captured with an iPhone. This content was optimized for the Rice Krispies Treats social media channels, designed to engage their 32k+ followers with relatable, visually appealing content that reflects the brand's playful spirit.

The Production Process

High-Quality Visuals for PR and Marketing

Our work began with the Fuji XT5, a top-tier camera known for its exceptional video quality and dynamic range. This camera allowed us to capture the suite in all its glory, ensuring that every detail—from the cozy textures of the bed linens to the vibrant colors of the mural wall—was highlighted. We meticulously shot 44 photos that showcased the suite's most captivating features. The wide shots provided an expansive view of the suite, giving a sense of the space and its playful design, while the close-ups focused on the intricate details that made the suite truly unique.

The 30-second video captured with the FX3 was designed to be a dynamic walk-through of the suite, starting with a grand reveal as the door opens, followed by a comprehensive tour that highlights key features such as the entertainment area, the bunk bed slide, and the fort. This video was created with PR and marketing in mind, ensuring that it could be used across multiple platforms to generate interest and excitement about the suite.

Social Media-Ready Visuals

In addition to the high-quality FX3 content, we also captured 5 photos and a 30-second video using an iPhone 15. The goal here was to create content that felt more immediate and relatable, perfectly suited for social media platforms like Instagram. The iPhone's camera, while less powerful than the FX3, still provided high-quality visuals that maintained the playful and engaging spirit of the suite. The vertical format was ideal for Instagram Stories and Reels, making it easy for followers to engage with the content.

This approach allowed us to create a diverse range of content that could be used to engage different audiences. The FX3 content provided the polish and professionalism needed for PR and marketing, while the iPhone content offered a more casual, behind-the-scenes feel that resonated with social media users.

Media Coverage and Impact

Our work on the Rice Krispies Treats Re-Treat Suite did not go unnoticed. Boston Uncovered, a popular local publication, featured our visuals and credited Bunker Hill Media for capturing the suite’s essence. This coverage helped to amplify the reach of the suite, bringing it to the attention of a wider audience. Additionally, Food & Wine magazine, a prestigious publication in the culinary world, showcased our video in their article about the suite, further solidifying its status as a must-see destination for families.

The Final Deliverables

The final deliverables included:

  • 44 high-quality photos. (7) 5+-second stand alone clips and (1) 30-second video shot with the Sony FX3, tailored for PR and marketing purposes. These assets were widely distributed across media channels to generate buzz and showcase the suite’s unique features.

  • 5 iPhone photos, (5) 5+-second stand alone clips and 1 30-second video optimized for social media use. These visuals were designed to engage Rice Krispies Treats’ 32k+ followers on Instagram, creating an authentic connection with their audience.

Why Video and Photos Matter

In a project like the Rice Krispies Treats Retreat Suite, the importance of high-quality visuals cannot be overstated. The combination of video and photos allowed us to capture both the grand, first-impression vibes of the suite and the smaller, more intimate moments that guests would discover as they explored. Video content, in particular, is a powerful tool for storytelling, allowing us to convey the playful and cozy atmosphere of the suite in a way that static images alone cannot.

Photos, on the other hand, provided the flexibility to capture specific details and moments, creating a visual narrative that complemented the video content. Together, these visuals helped to create a comprehensive picture of the Re-Treat Suite, showcasing its unique features and inviting potential guests to experience the magic for themselves.

Conclusion

The Rice Krispies Treats Retreat Suite project was a perfect example of how Bunker Hill Media brings a brand's vision to life through strategic, high-quality video and photography. From the detailed planning and precise execution to the quick overnight turnaround, this project highlighted the importance of capturing both the grand and intimate moments of an experience. Whether it’s through professional-grade FX3 content or authentic, social media-friendly iPhone shots, Bunker Hill Media ensures that every aspect of a project is beautifully represented, helping brands like Rice Krispies Treats connect with their audience in meaningful ways.

This project also underscores the value of versatile content that can be adapted for different platforms, from polished PR materials to engaging social media posts. By delivering a comprehensive suite of visual assets, Bunker Hill Media helped to amplify the reach of the Re-Treat Suite, ensuring that the magic of this unique experience could be shared with audiences far and wide.
